I have a basic question about shared libraries being used in multiple plug-ins.

I have 2 iPhoto plugin's that use some shared code that is compiled into static libraries. However, when both plug-in's are loaded they seem to be trouncing all over each other's code. In the debugger variables randomly go invalid. However if i have just one plug-in installed and running, then all is fine. Has anyone seen this? Is there a decent solution?
