If you want to carry a copy of this information in your application,
it will also be available in CLDR 1.5:

Is there any other way to get "Today" and "Yesterday" translation
for current language (other than translating "Today" and
"Yesterday" by myself)?
No.
If you trust those localizations as accurate*, grab a copy of each
of those words from:
/System/Library/Frameworks/Foundation.framework/Resources/Languages/
in 10.4, and create strings files for each language you want to
support.
* beyond standalone correctness, I could also say "accurate for the
context in which you are using them".
