Merging/Connecting NSBezierPaths?

Howdy again,

I'm looking to do the following type of merge of an arbitrary number of rects at runtime. http://www.sethwillits.com/temp/FunWithPaths.png

It doesn't appear that NSBezierPath can do this for me, so I probably need to figure out an algorithm for this. My cases are simple in that the paths are always rects, and if they should be merged the always align on one side, and only on the top/bottom (never left/right). Has anybody had to do this?
