Thanks everyone. I just wanted to make sure I was on the right track. I didn't think to look in more detail at NSCharacterSet, but that appears to be exactly what I need.

In my research for a solution it appears to me that NSScanner may be used to do this conversion. I was thinking of creating a category on NSString and using NSScanner to search for instances of the dash.

Sounds good.

But, I'm not sure if this will work for converting the other direction. Is there a convenient way to scan for capital letters using NSScanner?

Yes. NSScanner uses NSCharacterSet which implements +capitalizedLetterCharacterSet.

And make sure to remember to call [scanner setCaseSensitive: YES] because by default, scanners are case insensitive (which makes the whole "scan for case" do nothing)
