The "custom class" on File's Owner is only used by IB. After all, the File's owner is responsible for loading the NIB, so by the time AppKit sees that the File's Owner's class has been set to "SchreibenDocument", the object has already been created.


You need to change your Info.plist to specify the correct NSDocument subclass, because that is what's consulted before creating a new document.
