While this is not a perfect solution, there is something that can be done about it. The TWAIN interface is based on one single entry point and selector based dispatching. Another layer (*) of inter-process- communication to an Rosetta/PPC demon bridging data via shared memory might not be desireable but is at least feasible.
* some twain drivers already use one
