Uhh, this exact question was asked a few days ago. As then, I'd
suggest you look at one of the open source news readers for OS X. For
example, check out Vienna's source code and look at the XMLParser and
RichXMLParser classes, as well as the clean-up and helper functions in
StringExtensions:

The link goes to the development version, Vienna 2.2. The parser code
in there has some additional stuff and tweaks that's not in the
current release, so it's probably what you want.
