Thread Pools in Cocoa / ObjC?

I'm looking for a way to do thread-pools in cocoa/objc. It looks like
NSOperations from Leopard may do what I'm looking for, however they are not
behaving the way I would expect.

Is there a Tiger solution for what I'm looking for or do I have to wait
until Leopard? If I have to wait until Leopard is this a place I can ask
questions about how NSOperations & NSOperationQueues behave, if not where
can I get more info? I've already read through the documentation in XCode &
it doesn't give me the details I would like to know.
