How to maxmize a window at startup?

Looks similar to the effect of clicking the upper left + green button.

Another question is that after I press the + button, besides maxmizing,
I found there's an extra line at the top after the title bar. (see
attachment) How to remove that?

[I'm playing with the old JTerminal program. Seems it's a lot faster
than either Terminal or iTerm.]
