Mac OS X Services are something different than Windows services.
(Services in OS X are a little-used feature that allows the user to
perform actions on selected items.) The equivalents of Windows
services are login items and startup items - search
developer.apple.com for these terms for further information, although
the names should make them pretty self-explanatory.
