I'd like to add that since you were confused by the error you were given, you might want to pick up a book on C, which will explain pointers and function declarations/definitions to you. Objective-C is a thin superset of C, so the rules that apply to ANSI C apply to Obj-C as well.

Get a copy of The C Programming Language, 2nd Edition and thank yourself later:
