class. ("white-boxing") So generally it is a good idea, to look for
alternatives for subclassing, esp. delegates.
You are right in that Cocoa programmers often look to other design
patterns before choosing to subclass one of the framework provided
classes. That said, NSWindowController is one of the classes in
Cocoa designed and intended to be subclassed, so that's not a
consideration in this particular case.
