NSAppleScript shies away from porcupines

  • Subject: NSAppleScript shies away from porcupines
  • From: "Gerriet M. Denkmann" <email@hidden>
  • Date: Tue, 26 Aug 2008 14:39:36 +0700

I want to open some file:

source =
"tell application "SomeApp"
	open POSIX file "/Volumes/เม่น/some/file" as alias
	activate
	end tell
"
NSAppleScript *aa = [ [ NSAppleScript alloc ] initWithSource: source ] ;
NSDictionary *errorInfo = nil ;
NSAppleEventDescriptor *awe = [ aa executeAndReturnError: &errorInfo ] ;

But I get:
errorInfo: {
NSAppleScriptErrorBriefMessage = "Can't make file \"\U00a0\U2018 \U00df\U00c0\U00cf:Volumes:\U2021\U00a1\U00cb\U03c0:some:file\" into type alias.";
NSAppleScriptErrorMessage = same as NSAppleScriptErrorBriefMessage
NSAppleScriptErrorNumber = -1700; = "Can't make some data into the expected type."
NSAppleScriptErrorRange = <00000000 00000000 >;

What is this gibberish?
Could it be that 17 years after the invention of Unicode AppleScript still has not seen the light?
Or what am I doing wrong?

Kind regards,

Gerriet.

P.S. เม่น = porcupine.
