secure dns resolution

Hello,

I am working on DNS protection feature for a Mac security program.

I am looking for some API that I can used to retrieve IP addresses of a hostname from a dedicated DNS Server instead of the one set by system configuration. The purpose of this is to ensure for our protected sites, we always get IP address from DNS server we trusted.

Does anyone know if such an API exists, or what the most expedient method of accomplishing this?

Thanks for any assistance or suggestions!
