Earlier versions of Keynote displayed the presentation using OpenGL, and
prevented Cocoa windows from displaying over the top of the presentation.

One of the last 2 versions changed things a bit. They added a preference
that the user can set which will allow other apps to display over the top of
a running presentation.

In the "Slideshow" toolbar option of Keynote preferences, check the box
that says "Allow Expose, Dashboard and others to use screen."
