try this:

NSString *string = [textField stringValue];
int stringLength = [string length];
NSString *msg = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"\"%@\" is %d characters
long", string, stringLength]
[textLabel setStringValue:msg];
NSLog(@"%@", string);
