The return type is certainly part of NSMethodSignature - but as far as I can tell it's ignored for parsing the Obj-C source and resolving the method when compiling.

I'm pretty sure it is.

If you make one by hand you have to include it. However I believe it does get ignored when resolving methods by signature.
