highlighted table column in nib

When designing an NSTableView in IB, I can highlight one of the columns. That information is clearly stored in the file, because if I close and reopen, the highlight is still there. But after I load the nib, [myTable highlightedTableColumn] returns nil. Is there any way to get that nib-highlighted column at run time? _______________________________________________
