Have you taken a look at the "sips" command-line tool <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man1/sips.1.html >? This isn't my area of expertise, and I have no actual experience with this tool, but I just wanted to make sure you're aware of it.
