If you can require 10.5, then don't use UpdateSystemActivity(), instead,
do this:
IOPMAssertionID assertionID ;
IOReturn err = IOPMAssertionCreate (
kIOPMAssertionTypeNoDisplaySleep,
kIOPMAssertionLevelOn,
&assertionID);
