I'm just curious but why?

Well, since various Apple people have already pointed out discussing the iPhone SDK is part of an NDA, so there's no way you'll get an answer.

I'm sure it revolves around the fact that limiting the sw and hw supported reduces the development effort for that team, but we'll never know exactly…
