Accessing memory out of set memory limit

  • Subject: Accessing memory out of set memory limit

Hello all,

I am trying to set memory limit using setrlimit function function using
resources RLIMIT_AS , RLIMIT_RSS , RLIMIT_DATA seperately . I also tried to
limit memory available to a program using ulimit . But even after that I am
able to access memory more than the allocated limit , say I set virtual
memory using setrlimit (RLIMIT_AS , limit) to 10 MB(say) ,
and if i allocate 100 MB (say) memory , it is still allocated . Is there any
way i can check for this overflow or i can limit memory usage .

Any pointers or help in this regard would be highly appreciated .

Thanks and regards
Mayank Varshney
