People from Apple who develop input methods told me as much. Presumably, since you are typing from the keyboard to test the input method itself, having it run on the same computer causes problems: you are trying to allow the interaction with the executable to be natural, but how do you know keyboard input is intended for Xcode or the client application (like TextEdit, which "hosts" the test).
