Apologies if these are basic questions, but I got decidedly lost trying to follow the docs.

I also got lost in the docs (I should file a bug one of these days). Anyway, take a look at CFArray.c from Apple's CF source, specifically the _CFArrayFastEnumeration function. Having that for an example really helped.
