I had already checked the outlets, but rebuilding the nib from scratch
fixed the problem. It must have become corrupted somehow. Thanks.

The first thing to check is if the "window" outlet of the
NSWindowController (probably File's Owner) is connected to the
window object in the nib.
Another possibility is if the nib has an error (due to corruption or
something like that) and can't load. Is anything being written to
the console output?
