Look at Eclipse.
You can suggest it to them, but I wouldn't hold your breath. :)
Probably shouldn't open up that argument in this thread.
Paying for documentation is a weird thought though. Apple should be
happy to attract developers to have the platform flourish. That's an
investment you have to make if you want to be the controlling entity
of an operating system.
Yeah, I know... one of the drawbacks of writing late at night - this
point was not well stated. I didn't mean to imply Apple should start
charging for documentation, just that we (including me) sometimes feel
entitled, and I think what we've paid should be kept in mind when we
start to feel entitled.
I think even for the documentation user generated content could be a
good way to "spice it up". This worked very well for PHP for
example. It would be valuable feedback for the tech writers. Just
submitting bugs to the documentation is not the same. We are
entering the age of user generated content. Let's not miss the boat
here. Cocoadev is great - but too separate.
This sounds interesting, but I'm not clear on what your comment about
CocoaDev means, to be honest. The problem here, of course, is that
somebody has to take the initiative to get it started and nurse it
through the difficult start-up times until you get critical mass.
I think face-to-face is an important part to overcome the obstacles.
And this will become easier the more popular it gets.
Amen. I can't tell you how much I sometimes hate having moved away
from the SF Bay Area where there are many Cocoa Programmers, and there
are NSCoder nights, and CocoaHeads, and other opportunities to meet
other Cocoa programmers, to a place where Cocoa is only something you
drink after snowmobiling. Then I remember how much bigger my house is
here and how much less I paid for it and I feel a little better :)
