In the NeXTstep 2.0 or 3.0 time frame, NeXT added AppKit framework support for faxing. Anything that could be printed could be faxed. The cool part was that all existing AppKit based applications automatically got fax support via the print panel without even being recompiled. This is another one of those mythical advantages of dynamic programming languages. Built-in fax support is just one of the AppKit features that Apple dropped after buying NeXT.
