Dex,

This error message is pretty much always a multi-threading bug. -tryLock before a fetch request is not one of the recommended patterns. Consider reviewing the Core Data Programming Guide's multithreading section.

You should try the Debug Libraries from ADC. These allow you to enable a user default that will programmatically enforce Core Data's threading guidelines. See:
