I'm still a beginner but I'm making a calculator designed for programmers, both for experience and because I think it will be useful and I want to give users the option of running xcode and or IB when my calculator is launched, or vice versa but I can't figure out how to do this, I've looked through the documentation. Can anyone help?

For a cocoa approach look at NSWorkspace. Or you could try AppleScript.
