Panel will not reappear

Hi,
I created a panel like the example in chapter 12 of Hillegass' book,
and it mostly works.
The panel appears when summoned the first time, and interacts with its
controller fine.
However, when I close the panel (via Esc or the window close button),
it will not re-appear.
The controller is calling showWindow: again, and the controller isn't
released (its -dealloc was never invoked, GC is not used).
Any ideas of what should I check at this point?
