Transfer progress for objects fetched from a vended object

Let's say that I have a vended object that has a method that returns an NSArray whose contents are large. Let's say that I'm calling this method from another application over a network. As the transfer of the NSArray over the network might take a while, I'd like to display a progress bar. Can I get somehow get some sort of transfer status? Which object would I ask?
