Only if you can keep both apps running at the same time, or have some kind of longer-lived shared intermediary.

I think the OP needs to clarify exactly what is expected from an inter-application communication mechanism. The implication is that it should have about the same capability as AppleScript, but I could be reading more into it than was intended.
