iPhone: Q about MKMapView

A few quick questions about the MKMapView:
1. I have a MKMapView set to show current location. The docs say that it
updates itself every now and then to show current location on the map. It
seems to always show the lat/long of where I last synced with my iTunes
client. If I go home and run my app, I still see the current location pin
drop where I work. I am not hardcoding the lat/long anywhere.

2. Does anyone know what the actual update interval for the map view is when
it's set to display the current position? Is it better to get the coords
myself and set a pin instead of relying on the property to do it for me?
