for knowing when you content is loaded:

NSWindowController -- windowDidLoad
UIViewController -- viewDidLoad

Since the behavior of awakeFromNib differs between iPhone OS and Mac
OS X, using windowDidLoad or viewDidLoad will ensure you only receive
that message once: when the window or view is loaded."
