Didn't work for me when I tried it just now. Two interesting behaviors observed.

If you are already dragging and press the option key, the knob stops where it is until you release the key again. At that point it jumps to where the mouse currently is.

If you hold down option and click somewhere on the slider (but not on the knob) the slider will move toward the click by the alternate increment about instead of jumping to the point of the click.
