pbs is used for Services and isn't related to drag and drop or copy and paste.
Can you see if the "pbs" process is running? If so, what does sample show it's doing?
If not, what happens if you run it directly: /System/Library/CoreServices/pbs ? Does it crash or complete successfully?
Do you have any apps installed that attempt to modify Services (e.g. Service Scrubber)?_______________________________________________
