I just tried doing that the other day, and it just appeared suddenly, so I assumed I was doing something wrong. In the end I needed to program it differently because I needed to reverse the showing/hiding animation part way through the animation, so I never really looked into it in depth, but as a data point, it did appear to be broken to me.
