Zooming and panning an NSImageView

Hi guys
We have a program that uses the NSImageView to show images, currently it
forces the image to be shown so it fits the window ( that is, they are a lot
bigger than what we're seeing ). i want to add the ability to animate a
zoom into an area, after a user drags a box over that area, and then to pan.
My main question is, am I right in thinking that Core Image has support for
this, and, if so, is there a built in class I should be using instead of
NSImageView to show my images ?

If anyone has a link to example code, that would be even better

Thanks as always

Christian
