You're probably going to have to display an image in an outlineview cell. Start by looking at ImageAndTextCell in the DragNDropOutlineView Developer example

The alternative is to place NSAttributedStrings that have images imbedded in the outlineview. But I could never get the formatting to work well enough to make the AttributedStrings approach workable.
