How a subview can inform to the controler that an event has happened?

I am looking the sample Dragging views (The iPhone Developer's Cookbook) where the are N subviews (flowers) are floating inside UIViewController.
It is a sample and working, but how subview can inform to UIViewController that the dragging (an event) has finished?
