iPhone: getting the pixel data from a PNG file

Hello, all ...

I need to be able to make an iPhone app read a PNG file and retrieve the values of its' pixels. I know that libPNG can do this, but my questions are:

1. does libPNG already exist on the iPhone, or do I need to compile it as a .a and link with it?
2. are there Cocoa Touch or other iPhone APIs to help me do this, maybe without needing to use libPNG?

Regards,

John
