Rosetta Booster Conclusion - It Works

  • Subject: Rosetta Booster Conclusion - It Works

This completes the discussion of Rosetta Booster on this list. Its relevance comes from a cocoa dev poster concerned about startup delay of PPC code on Intel. A responder proposed a solution. I implemented and tested the proposed solution.

As a Cocoa developer and a Product Manager, I am involved in a major rewrite of a legacy Lisa/Codewarrior Pascal application and keeping hungry users happy as best we can with a nib here and there.

As our user base migrates from PPC to Intel, I am witness to many of their expressions as they fire up our app the first time on Intel.. and wait about 8 seconds. There is at first a pained expression as they politely ask "why slow, wise guy?", totally blowing the expected joy of a faster computer. I then bite my lip, explain the situation by praising the miracle of Rosetta, silently cursing Intel, and race back to the pile 'o code.....

Using Rosetta Booster made my app startup time immeasurable by stopwatch. It felt as fast as PPC.

We are installing Rosetta Booster on all applicable machines until our cocoa rewrite is available.

For more info, please, contact me off-list.

Thanks to all that have responded so far!
