Have you thought this through? It means that every time you click your mouse pointer will jump to somewhere else.

Or did you mean the text cursor in NSTextView? If so, you can set that using -setSelectedRange: (with a range length of 0).

Most file diff software uses a special highlight background or text decoration to indicate differences.
