DOH!  Funny thing is, I read that sentence a couple days ago in the docs, but only registered the "retains the ... argument" bit at the time (because that's what I was looking for).

You're right.  That makes everything *much* simpler.

Lesson learned... again... when in doubt, read the documentation.  =P
