I'm afraid I don't have much to contribute to your question, but I do
think you should reconsider this. In the longer run you're very likely
to want to do this, and it will be far easier to design it that way
from the start. Users want it, and will ask for it. I'm currently
facing a complete rewrite of a substantial section of an app because I
also decided to take this shortcut originally, and now realise it was
a mistake.
