An empty progress indicator doesn't look like that on the Mac. It looks like this:
Please don't go copying UI appearances from other platforms. The Human Interface Guidelines (or HIG for short) says what the UI should look like and how it should behave, and it should generally be followed. Certainly the fact that some other platform looks different or works differently is not normally a sufficient justification, even if your program already runs on that other platform.
