Tool tips associated with the contents of views that are dynamically added to and moved within a window's content view are improperly displayed, or not displayed at all, when the window is eventually displayed in Mac OS X 10.6.x. That is, similar to cursor rects, tool tip regions are supposed to be recalculated when subviews are added or change frame. There is a bug, originally introduced in Leopard, that fails to update the regions if the window is not yet visible.
This problem did not exist in Tiger (10.4), was introduced in Leopard (10.5), subsequently fixed or improved in 10.5.4, then re-appeared with the release of Snow Leopard (10.6). I have filed a bug report (7389790).
There is NO problem with display of any views or controls, nor is there any problem with cursor rects, the key view loop, or the responder chain... just the tool tips.
This is a request to see if anyone knows how to force the tool tip regions to be recomputed (similar to resetCursorRects) - which I'd do when the window becomes key. Since tool tips work correctly in 10.4, I can live with a Leopard-only solution while I wait for a bug fix.
