You can change this to
attributes = [[NSMutableDictionary alloc] initWithObjectsAndKeys:

NSForegroundColorAttributeName, NSColor redColor],
NSShadowAttributeName, shadow,
nil];
or using my MYUtilities library,
attributes = $dict({[NSFont fontWithName:@"Helvetica" size:75],
NSFontAttributeName},
{[NSColor redColor], NSForegroundColorAttributeName},
{shadow, NSShadowAttributeName});
