Can anybody explain to me where that funny version string might come from?

Have you done a clean build?

Yes, I did a "clean all targets", removed the build/ directory, and emptied the trash, and searched in spotlight whether there are any executables somewhere else ... to no avail.

In other words, the value you're seeing is a stale one from an earlier build.

That's what I thought at first, too, but I don't think I ever used tertiary version numbers, I've been always using just x.y!

When I look at ~/Library/Screen\ Savers/ArtSaver.saver/Contents/ Info.plist, everything in that file is fine:

    <key>CFBundleShortVersionString</key>
    <string>1.8</string>

What's even more funny is that I get different version numbers, depending on whether I run the screen saver in SaverLab or the System Preferences!
In SaverLab, I get 1.7.4, in System Preferences I get 5.2!
(I display the version number in the configure sheet of the screen saver.)

If it helps, here is the complete source code: http://zach.in.tu-clausthal.de/tmp/ArtSaver.zip

I'm sure it's a very stupid bug of mine, but I am completely at a loss.

Regards,
Gabriel.
