The results are surprisingly bad (compared to how good font rendering is in general on the Mac). Most notably, the character positions "jump around" in whole pixel increments while I'm rotating the text. Usually, this is caused by hinting which tries to place vertical and horizontal lines at integer pixels. Does anyone know of a way to switch this off (temporarily) for a given context?

How are you drawing your NSString? Are you using NSLayoutManager? If so, try sending your layout manager the -setUsesScreenFonts: message with the argument NO and see if that fixes the issue.

Kind regards,

Alastair.
